Instagram fixes bug causing service interruptions

Instagram has fixed a bug that caused the service to shut down, which affected users to varying degrees as people reported disabled accounts and repeated app crashes. The problem persisted for about eight hours. However, not all users were affected by it, and those affected reported various problems.
Let’s take a look at what we know about the outage.
Instagram – What’s going on?
Reports began circulating on Twitter around 10 a.m. this morning that users were losing thousands of followers in an apparent purge of Instagram accounts.
The sudden decline in followers is likely related to another ongoing problem. Some users logged in to see the lost subscribers, but others were told their account was disabled.
Thousands of disabled accounts can equate to thousands of lost subscribers. However, people who were able to access their accounts found it difficult to do so.
While following the # Instagramdown hashtag, the most common complaint I noticed was that the app crashed or could not be used at all.
While this topic has been trending on Twitter all day, we’re not sure how widespread the problem is.

At 6:00 a.m. ET Monday night, Instagram confirmed it had fixed the bug, saying:
“We’ve resolved the issue now – it was causing people in different parts of the world to have trouble accessing their accounts and caused a temporary change for some in the number of followers. Sorry!
But is everything solved?
Looking at the responses on Twitter, users continue to have trouble accessing their accounts.
