Instagram to launch new hands-free recording support

Flip phones are back, with the trend since early 2000 inspiring a new range of advanced mobile devices from Samsung that provide alternative functionality, and have already caught on with many new fans.

And with that, Instagram is looking to move with the trend, with the addition of new hands-free creation options on Samsung Flip phones.

Instagram recording on Samsung flip phones
As Instagram explains:

“Along with other Meta apps that are improving to work with these devices, Instagram will now adapt and give you a better experience on these phones when you flip them. With FlexCam on the Galaxy Z Flip4, you can fold your phone and place it on a surface apart to record hands-free video. Now you can create stories and reels without a stand or tripod.”

Of course, users can use hands-free recording on IG already, with the UG Hand Free’ mode built into the app’s camera tools. So, functionally, it’s not a big step forward, but it does provide another option for flip-phone users, which could be valuable for those who regularly record IG video and want an easier way to create better, more stable footage at all times.

Instagram also notes that it’s working to further improve its Android capabilities, with improved load times and support for higher-resolution videos. These updates are still in development-but if you’re super cool and already have a new Samsung flip phone, you can start using this new free functionality right away.
